WELCOME!
Gibsons Family Network (GFN) is a non-profit group of family members with a vision of helping people with disabilities to find meaningful, integrated employment within our community......
Our mandate is to enable people with developmental disabilities full citizenship in our community.
Gibson's Family Network is the belief that everyone is born with abilities. This philosophy allows everyone to reach his or her potential and to thrive as a contributing member of society.
Gibson's Family Network began as an association of families living in Gibsons, BC who have a family member or relative with a developmental disability. The group formed in 2004 and incorporated as a non-profit society in March 2006 in order to move forward to meet the need for more services on the Sunshine Coast. And in December of 2008, we received our charitable status.
What do we do?
Gibson's Family Network allows those with disabilities a chance to experience jobs, money, responsibilities, living skills, social skills, and more.
At GFN we want everyone to get the chance to live their life more independently. We want those with disabilities to know that they do have abilities they just have to find them.
At our Sunshine Shack, located in the Gibson's Community Center, we teach our employees how to be food safe, how to handle money (cashier, bank deposits), how to socialize with the public, how to cook and bake and we also teach them how to safely exercise with some basic knowledge about health and nutrition.
Being involved with the community is important for learning, meeting new people, and all of the experiences that come with being out and about in the town, and our goal is for everyone to have that chance.
